Fake it 'till you make it....

I had some extra squares left over from my little table runner project and decided to make a wall hanging. Due to my "free spirited" ways, I usually cut way more squares than I need. I also usually make up my own patterns and things just turn out how ever they turn out. Heaven forbid I ever take a class and I actually measure, cut and sew a quilt the way it was intended to be made! :) Again, I would like to ask all the quilty pros to stand back a bit and squint your eyes. There are more corners cut off than I would like to admit to. Makenzie and I spent Friday painting this hallway. It is just off the front door and leads to the preschool room. (The builders paint all new houses with a flat paint which is murder when you try to wash off dirty little hand prints.) The thing I dislike about painting is that I always second guess my color choice. This is a little too dark for my taste and makes the hallway look cavernous. It also has a tendency to look a bit orange at certain times of the day. But, it was so much work to tape off all these corners and doorways that I think I will let it be for a while.
( *Don't ask me what it is that looks like it's dripping down the wall, but I assure you, it's just in the picture....) I am often at a loss as to what to do with little nooks such as these, but I seem to have a need to stuff them full with things. The fake plants just aren't doing it for me, but there needs to be something......I am open to suggestions......
Our home is not in the least bit "prim" in its construction. Sometimes I think it makes all my prim things smack of "thrift store/early depression era" decorating. Especially when that sort of decorating is not the norm here in Arizona.
I can't wait to read your suggestions!
Happy Day, everyone. :):):)

The paint that builders use should be outlawed! I don't think that it matters what base you start with. If prim is your thing go for it wholeheartedly! Perhaps your nooks need something striking. You could try one large piece there with some smaller things to go with it. Something tall that uses more of the vertical space. Love your new look on the blog!

Cute quilt!

As we pulled up to an estate sale Sat I told my husband that there is woman who says on her blogs she gets "giddy" when she goes to an estate sale.

I love your quilt! It's very cute! I don't think a lot of the older quilters took classes or used patterns. A lot of the older quilts that people cherish were kind of thrown together. I like trying to come up with my own ideas...so many people don't or won't...

Have a great day :)

I do'nt have any suggestions for the nooks, but I do love the quilt and the painting. I didn't realize that Mckenzie was back. Yeah!

I agree with the gal who said maybe something bigger so you need fewer things and how about a small quilt under the items with one corner hanging down the wall?

I'd never know the little quilt wasn'tr perfect and I didn't even squint! Looks great to me.

hugs, Linda
