Whatcha Working on Wednesday

Spring has surely sprung here in Arizona. In fact, it came around February. I love Spring and the feeling of renewal it brings. However, spring in Arizona leaves one wanting when it comes to color.... Don't get me wrong, the desert has it's own beauty, but I really miss getting my hands dirty in my flower and veggie gardens. Our front yard is landscaped with rocks, cactus and other drought resistant plants, per HOA rules. Our backyard still needs some landscaping, but due to lack of time and funds, very little has been done. There's dirt. And that's it. So, I have found that fabric is the next best thing to bring some color into my life! :) I went on a quilt shop-hop last Saturday with my quilty friend, Joanne. (yep- we have the same name-cool, huh!?) There were a lot of quilts displayed that had the 1930's reproduction prints in them. I thought they were so bright and cheerful that I wanted to do something like that for my house! So I picked some fabric.....cut some squares...... And made this little table runner. I got the idea from my friend, Sharla, who has some awesome craft ideas. These little squares are basted on top of the fabric, then sewn leaving the raw edges. Then, when you wash this the fabric gets all raggy looking. It was very easy and quick to make! (**the only problem I had was the measuring....I know, I know, I should have paid more attention in Math class....and then my markings all but disappeared when I let it sit overnight. So, I kind of guessed as I was sewing and my lines aren't that straight!)

I like it! It's very pretty. It is sooooo much fun to shop with other women huh? Lots of laughing goes on, and no one stands around looking at (his) watch! lol :-) I do love some green, I guess I would miss that if I moved to the southern desert....But in the winter, I know I would LOVE it!♥

very very cute- and love the binding! You will have to tell me what Quilt Shops you went to-when in UT at American Quilting, the gal told me that there was a good one here - and I have been planning to go there....someday :)

Gorgeous! I wouldn't have known that the lines weren't straight if you hadn't told me.

Jo-Anne,
You have a wonderful blog. I have been enjoying looking around. The table runner is so precious and the colors are so pleasing to the eye. I agree with you about Arizona. I live in Queen Creek and I don't do heat well even after living here all but 5 years of my life. I too am LDS we are in Pecan Creek 1st Ward. Hope you will come visit my blogs when you get a free minute.
Hugs, Bobbi Jo

The runner looks great. I have seen other ways of doing a rag quilt. I may try making one sometime. After I finish some of my unfinished stuff first. LOL!

That runner is so adorable. I love the 1930 repro fabric's. I feel bad that I've been such a lousy blogger and haven't visited forever. I wish you lived closer, I've been beggin all my friends to take a quilting class (quilting with your sewing machine) like those big machines do, but none of them can. I finally decided to take it on my own, it's been fun and frustrating at the same time. You son looks like he is doing great on his mission!

It's so very springy :) What a neat idea....sewing the rag patches on top like that. I have never seen something done like that before!

Have a great day :)

Very cute--a couple ladies in my quilt group have made quilts like that. I got scared when they said you had to measure and mark. I KNOW I would have crooked lines. Yours looks so springy and cute--love it!!
