One more to go.....

Today marks one year that our son has been on his mission in Uganda. He left here on the 16th of December but reported to the Johannesburg, South Africa Missionary Training Center on the 18th of December. He will be home this time next year. There are days I don't think I can stand him being gone and want to go over to Uganda to fetch him home. And, then I realize that that is very selfish of me, for after all he is doing the Lords work.
My sweet friend, Pennee wrote these very comforting words to me just this week...
"Thanks so much for sending Mark's letter. I can see a tremendous amount of growth since the beginning of his mission. He is no longer the young boy. He has grown into a very special young man, one who has been able to catch the vision of the Lord's work here upon the earth. I am so happy for him. I am happy for you too. You can take comfort this holiday season that even though he is far away, he is where he is because the Lord is working through him to bring to pass the promises of the prophets. Angels are walking those dusty roads with him. He is not alone. The Spirit is his constant companion, literally. You can't ask for more than that."
She is right. I cannot ask for more than that. And I am so very proud of him.
My daughter, Makenzie wrote a very sweet post about her twin brother. If you would like to read it, click here.
Have a blessed holiday.

I remember reading your blog a year ago when your son left...it doesn't seem possible that it's been a whole year. I can't imagine knowing how you felt at the airport that morning knowing that it would be two years before he would be home again. However, knowing that he is doing the work of God is something to be proud of. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas.

Wow, your on the downward side of counting down the days! It was wonderful to read your son's letter, and his enthusiasm for serving. I cracked up at the comment about bra's. It sounds like something one of my sons would say. I didn't realize your kids were twins. I've never really thought about what it will be like when my twins go separate directions. That has to be hard.
Blessings,
Marcia

Wow, he sounds like an incredible missionary. Has this first year gone by fast or slow? Thanks for your sweet comment. We waited till the last minute to do Christmas shopping too. It seems like every year we have to wait for the paycheck to come. It seems like by the time we get to shopping everything is picked over. I've never done any type of reviews on my blog. I'm not sure Blog Her will let me since I have there thing on my blog. Blog her has been sorta fun, it gives me a little extra money. I have a friend that does a lot of reviews on her blog if you look at my side bar under friends and family she is listed as Sherri the queen shopper. She is very sweet, I'm sure she wouldn't mind you asking her about it. I hope everything is going well and you and your family have a merry Christmas!
